Does your romance take a back seat during the busy holiday season?  Hey, I understand! From early October (think fall & Halloween) until New Year’s Day, I’m busier than any other time of the year.  I’m cooking, cleaning, shopping and cooking some more.

Take Back Your Holiday Romance

Sure, I love the holidays, but sometimes it seems that my husband and I are like ships passing in the night.  Do you ever feel that way?  This year I’m determined to add a little spice to my holiday life, so I sat down and came up with 12 Ways to Take Back Your Holiday Romance.

12 Ways to Take Back Your Holiday Romance

1. Pencil your spouse in.

I know it may sound harsh to schedule time with your significant other, but listen up.  The holiday season is busier than normal.  If you want time together, you have to make time together.  Pick up that pencil and start scheduling.

2.  Whisper sweet nothings.

You can do this as you walk by each other on your way out the door in the morning AND by text throughout the day. Let your partner know that you love him,  you’re thinking of him and are looking forward to seeing him.  It feels great to be reassured that you’re loved!

3.  Re-create your first date.

Do you remember your first date?  I do and it was over 33 years ago!  We went to a seafood restaurant and had crab stuffed mushrooms for an appetizer.  I thought I was dipping a mushroom in a ranch style dipping sauce, but it turned out to be horseradish.  I got choked and the waiter ran over to check on me. It’s funny now, but I don’t think I’ll re-create that part.  But that first date led to this:

4.  Go Christmas shopping together.

Don’t roll your eyes.  I do most of my holiday shopping online, but my husband and I always plan one day that we shop all day long to finish up the lists.  We always take time for a nice lunch and an afternoon coffee break at our favorite coffee shop.  We laugh, talk, listen to Christmas carols in the car and have a really good time.

5.  Watch a movie or old TV show that you both love.

Once the kids are in bed, make S’mores and popcorn, pour cups of hot cocoa and snuggle together on the sofa and watch an old flick. (No cell phones allowed.)

6.  Do chores together.

Dreaded chores go by much faster when you have some help and it’s the perfect time to actually talk to each other.

7.  Take a drive around your neighborhood/town and look at Christmas decorations.

8.  Surprise your spouse with tickets for a holiday musical or ballet.

A couple of years ago my husband surprised me with tickets to see my favorite holiday ballet. He also booked an upscale hotel suite for the night. We got dressed up, had a beautiful dinner and a night on the town. What a romantic weekend!

9.  Cook dinner together.

Crank up the music and slow dance around the kitchen island as you prepare dinner together.  It’s a great time to unwind and reconnect.

10.  Play a board game.

Yes, a board game can be anything but boring and lead to some intimate moments.  Try it!

11.  Go to bed at the same time.

Did you know that most couples usually go to bed at different times?  In order to take back your holiday romance, you’ve got to make a conscious effort to go to bed together.  Enough said.

12.  Give a gift of intimacy.

Create a romantic Christmas stocking filled with products to ignite passion.  Include chocolate (of course), a holiday scented candle, a love letter, a bath bomb, scented soaps, and K-Y® Yours+Mine® Couples Lubricants®.
