Hit or Miss – Easter Basket Wreath

by Alli

This past weekend I decided to try my hand at an Easter Basket Wreath that I had seen on Pinterest and you can find the inspiration for my wreath and all the directions by clicking here!

The first thing you will notice when you visit the website is that their wreath and mine looks totally different.  I couldn’t find some of the products and I took several easy routes.

The directions for making the wreath include cutting a 14″ wire wreath frame in half.  My basic craft wire cutters refused to cut through that heavy wire.  And then I thought, “Why don’t I leave it as it is and make the top half the handle and the bottom half will remain the basket?”  Then I squashed in the handle part so that it would look more like a basket.

Once I cut the chicken wire, (you may want to use heavy duty gloves) and fashioned it into the shape of a basket around the bottom half of the wreath, I was ready to insert the burlap.  Instead of tying it all off, I just inserted bits into the hexagons of the chicken wire to hold it, kinda like I did with my fall burlap wreath, found here.   It worked for me and was so much more simplistic.

I really loved how my wreath turned out!  It was a big hit (at least to me)!  Well, I may buy some more eggs to add to it because I bought one pack, intending to buy two, but I got distracted by the 4th of July products that have already filled several aisles at Hobby Lobby.  And then I forgot to go back to the egg aisle.  Oh, well,  it’s all good.

I really enjoyed making this Easter Basket Wreath.  It was fun, easy and my patience didn’t run out before I was done.  And that’s a good thing!

I know! I do, too. Daughter #1 wants one so I’m using colored for hers. 🙂

Hi Alli, I like your wreath! But then I am not surprised, you are so talented! Just not sure what bunny’s have to do with Easter ;).

I know, Anna! I tried to find a cross, but couldn’t find one that wouldn’t break. 🙂

Thanks, Mica! It was beautiful until I went out of town and Caitlin was watching Max! He jumped up and ripped it off the door and tore it into shreds! I can’t believe he jumped that high and he’s still a puppy. 🙂

That’s lovely! I wish I had more time to craft. You could sell these! So adorable.

My husband said the same thing! Wreaths are so expensive when you buy them ready made. I enjoy trying new things. In fact, I’m making two of my daughters an Easter basket wreath today. I’m using the colored burlap. But if I sold them, it would feel more like work and less like fun! 🙂

That is totally cute! I just started working on my Holiday Shelf for Easter/Spring! It’s not coming together as I want it to yet, though!

What a gorgeous wreath! Are you going to use it indoors or outdoors?

Alli,

Their wreath was cute, but yours is REALLY cute. I love it. I can’t wait to be able to get back into making things for the holidays. By the time we get in our house the “holiday season” (Halloween to Easter) will be over. 🙁 Once I get my craft room going I will be making this wreath for next year.
p.s. get some wire snips!!!
