I’m the one! The one who scoffed when Amazon released its first Kindle. The one who told her hairstylist that she would never, ever, trade in her printed books for an e-reader. Don’t you talk to your hair stylist about important stuff like this?

Pretty Case for Kindle Paperwhite

My struggle is real! It’s the feel of a book in my hand. It’s the smell of the paper. Can you really curl up with a good Kindle?

I dug in and didn’t jump on the bandwagon when the first or second Kindle was released. Then I heard my aunt raving about how she loves her Kindle. My hairstylist kept urging me to at least try it.

Finally, I broke down and purchased my first one in ugly brown. Is that a color? I decided to go with the lime green case to jazz it up a little. It has the little night light that you pull up from the case. My husband still has one from that era. He believes in the if it ain’t broke theory. Luckily, mine finally broke.

At first, I was just ho-hum. It’s OK. I mean, I bought it, I might as well use it. And then, it happened! Gradually, I fell in love . . . with an e-reader!  Here are a few of the reasons why!

5 Reasons Why I Love My Kindle

1. Convenience

This really sums it all up. It’s just downright convenient. I can purchase a book without leaving my house. And when I do leave the house, My Kindle Paperwhite fits in my pocket. It’s perfect!

Plus, I can recharge my Kindle in the car or purchase a new book with the touch of my finger. Well, maybe that’s not so good.

I read a lot of books for free because I have Kindle Unlimited. That means I have access to over a million books that I can read for free – well, for $9.99 a month, that is. If you’re an avid reader like me, it’s a deal!

2. Instant Gratification

If I work my tush off from 4:00 am until 3:00 pm, I need a break – a reading break. Actually, I can curl up with my Kindle on the sofa. If I fall in love with a series, the next book in the series is at my fingertips. If it’s been released, that is.

3. Fits My Minimalist Lifestyle

I’ve given away so many of my old school books (not the classics). You’ve got to realize that I’m an avid reader and I’m always in the middle of a good book. Oh, and not bragging or anything, but I’m almost a speed reader. I read really fast and I retain what I read. Trust me, my husband has given me tests on books I’ve finished because he can’t believe how fast I can read a book. I once read 14 books on a 3-week beach vacation. Yep. That’s me.

My Kindle takes up very little room and my bookcases are practically bare without all those books in there. That means I get to style them like those HGTV bookcases – you know the ones – very few books and a whole lot of knick knacks.

4. Lightweight

I just drop my little Kindle Paperwhite (my current and most favorite Kindle) in my purse and I’m on my way. It only weighs 7.5 oz! Hello! It doesn’t matter how many pages my book has because it will always weigh the same.

5. Travel

Y’all know I love to travel and you’ll usually find me in the Caribbean during the month of July. I’m the one underneath the palapa with the Kindle Paperwhite in the bright pink cover.

You can’t keep me off the beach even when it’s raining. My husband snapped this photo with his phone from our balcony when we were in St. Maarten in July. It was pouring rain – but it never lasts long.

Why I Love My Kindle

You know what I love best about the Paperwhite? There’s no glare! I can read in the bright sunlight with absolutely no glare at all!

The Kindle Fire is my least favorite of all. It was Kindle #2. I just let the grandkids play games on it because I just don’t get it. And the glare is horrible on the beach.

Back to travel. It’s so convenient when traveling by plane or car. Can you imagine packing 14 books for vacation? I don’t have room in my suitcase for that.

Travel is Another Reason Why I Love my Kindle

To sum things up, I said goodbye to my paper books and now I pretty much read exclusively on my Kindle Paperwhite.

P.S. – A few days ago I read a for-real book and it felt, well, weird.

I was that girl. The one who said she would never trade her paper books for a Kindle. And then what happened?

Let’s discuss Kindle vs. paper books! Which do you prefer and why?
