Patriotic Party Tips

At my house, summer is in full swing and I’m busy planning fun patriotic parties. Yeah, I know June 21st is the official first day of summer, but who’s looking at the calendar? Not me!

When we’re planning a patriotic party, we fire up the grill and invite a huge crowd over to celebrate our great country. Our party is always casual and flip flops are the expected footwear.

The decor screams red, white, and blue and the food is always a play on the American classics.

Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Cookies and Patriotic Party Ideas

Red, White, and Blue Decor

When it comes to partying outside, I like no-frills easy party decor. Since I have a gazillion glass vases hiding in the cabinet beneath my kitchen sink, I decided to stock up on gumballs in red, white and blue.

Patriotic Centerpiece - Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Cookies

Add a few flags and Americana pinwheels and the centerpiece is done.

Guessing Game: Count the gumballs as you put together your centerpiece. Have your guests guess the number of gumballs. The one who guesses the closest gets to take home both centerpieces!

Remember that red tablecloth you used at Christmas? It’s time to bring it back out. It’s perfect for a patriotic party.

Patriotic Party Menu

Burgers and Fries Station

Grilled burgers and french fries are a family favorite. My party calls for a make your own burger and fries station.

The fries are so much easier to serve when I place them in individual cups with a dollop of Hunt’s® Ketchup.

Peanut Butter and Jelly Stars

The kids love peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Who am I kidding? I love them too! To take them up a notch for a patriotic celebration, I use star-shaped cookie cutters.

Peanut Butter and Jelly Star Sandwiches and Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Cookies

You’ll need:

  • Peter Pan® Peanut Butter
  • Strawberry Jam or Jelly
  • Star Cookie Cutters

Make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and cut them out with star-shaped cookie cutters. The kids at your party will be so thankful that you’re thinking about them.

Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Cookies

I’ve been making 3-ingredient peanut butter cookies for years. This is always my go-to recipe because these cookies turn out perfectly every single time. The addition of chocolate chips amps up the flavor and elevates the taste of my favorite peanut butter cookie.

Who can resist peanut butter and chocolate? I imagine you have everything you need to make these Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Cookies in your pantry. You don’t even have to wait until a special occasion.

My favorite brand of peanut butter is Peter Pan® Peanut Butter. Maybe it’s because mom always had Peter Pan® on hand so I grew up loving this peanut butter.

I buy it for my family because it’s made with wholesome, simple ingredients, and packed with protein. Don’t tell anyone, but sometimes I eat it straight from the spoon or add it to my favorite oatmeal.

To make Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Cookies, you’ll need one cup each of peanut butter and sugar, one egg, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, and 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips.

Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Cookies

Mix the peanut butter, sugar, egg and vanilla together with a spoon. Gently stir in the chocolate chips.

Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Cookies

Scoop tablespoons full of the cookie dough and shape into balls.

How to Make Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Cookies

Flatten slightly and bake for 10-12 minutes at 350º F. After flattening the balls, I pressed a few chocolate chips into the top of the cookies. I think they are prettier and really, can you ever have too many chocolate chips?

Star-Spangled Fruit Kabobs

Star Spangled Fruit Flag - Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Cookies

No summer party is complete without Star Spangled Fruit Kabobs. Here’s what you’ll need to make this simple dessert.

  • Blueberries
  • Sliced Strawberries
  • Marshmallows
  • Wooden Skewers

For the first four skewers, you’ll need to add seven blueberries followed by one strawberry slice and a marshmallow. Repeat the strawberries and marshmallows two more times.

For the remainder of the skewers, alternate seven strawberry slices and six marshmallows, beginning and ending with strawberries. You now have a flag-inspired fruit tray.

Let’s Play Some Games

Remember all the childhood games you played as a kid? It’s time to act like a kid again by participating in games of Red Rover, Kick the Can and Freeze Tag. What about a game of volleyball? The kids will love having the adults join in and you’ll take a sweet trip down memory lane.

Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Cookies

I do hope I’ve inspired you to throw caution to the wind and plan your own Patriotic party. The food is delicious and the tablescape is fun and easy to create. And the 4-ingredient Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Cookies are amazing!

When will you be hosting your first summer party?

Everything looks so bright and beautiful. I love the food and those cookies are seriously making me wanting to try them. And of course, I have everything on hand (but not the same brand of peanut butter). I too sometimes eat the peanut butter straight out of a spoon, like very often!! The gumballs in the vases are so creative. Really love your party ideas!!

I just had a good old fashioned pbj for lunch today with my favorite Peter Pan creamy peanut butter! I mixed in some apple jelly just like they did in the lunchroom at school. So good. We’re looking forward to the Memorial Day festivities this year too. Your celebration looks so fun. I love the gumballs in the jars and the game to go with them.
