Homemade Biscuits
  • 2 cups self-rising flour
  • ⅔ - ¾ cup cold milk
  • ¼ cup vegetable shortening (like Crisco)
  1. Preheat oven to 450. Measure flour into a mixing bowl. Cut the shortening in with a pastry blender until the particles of shortening are the size of peas.
  2. Add milk and mix with a spoon until the mixture forms a loose ball.
  3. If it's too wet, add a bit more flour. If it's too dry, add a little more milk.
  4. Turn dough onto a smooth, floured surface.
  5. Here is where I do use my hands (the dough is no longer gooey). Pat the dough out to about ½ inch thickness. Cut the dough with a floured cutter and transfer to a greased baking pan. Arrange the biscuits with sides touching. Bake for 10-14 minutes or until golden brown.
