She Said, She Said – Skincare And Music

by Alli

I FINALLY caught up with my youngest daughter and demanded that she actually join me in our MONTHLY She Said, She Said – January post. It’s where we share our monthly faves and this month is all about skincare and music.

I mean, really, it’s been a while. Man, did she make up for her absence.

When I received her e-mail, I thought she had written a 12-page thesis. I think I’ll just sit this one out and add a comment every now and then. Here goes!

Caitlin is a make-up artist, photographer, singer, youth leader at church and her day job is a title abstractor for a company that is co-owned by her sister (daughter #1).  She also has a youtube channel where she shares her favorite skincare and makeup tips.

She Said: Skincare and Music

Two words – SKINCARE – Or is that one word?

Alli:  You’re correct, smart daughter of mine.  It can be used either way.

Skincare has been a big favorite of mine this month, thanks to Christmas/my mom. After griping about my patchy, blemished skin for a month she decided to get me almost every skincare item Sephora carries (in mostly sample sizes).

Note: Our favorites are listed down below. Click the links to shop straight from this page. I earn from qualifying purchases and I never promote an item I don’t absolutely love.

She Said: Skincare

Boscia Tsubaki Cleansing Oil-Gel

This gently and softly removes all makeup and impurities.  I’m not sure if you’re supposed to rub it on your eyes, but I do and it removes my mascara, too.

First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads (oops, these were mom’s facial pads – we share lol).

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream (mom’s again – I gave her skincare, too).

Josie Maran Argan Infinity Cream Intensive Creamy Oil

Don’t be afraid of the oils! This one can be used in a number of ways.

Use it under the eyes, to smooth fly-aways, on your lips, mixed with blush or eye shadow to transform them into a cream. I personally just put it on my face and lips at the same time. 😀

BeautyBlender

I held out on this one for a long time. I just didn’t get it. A sponge? They’re trying to sell me a sponge??

I’m all about the brushes…until I saw a beauty blogger wet the sponge, squeeze the excess water out and pounce (yes, that’s the correct terminology) the sponge all over her face until her foundation melted into her skin and left her face looking glowy and perfect.  It works.

Alli says:  I tried this, too, and it really does work better than my foundation brush. It took a little while to learn to pounce instead of using brush strokes.

Lorac PRO Palette

This one needs a drumroll. These eyeshadows are creamy, buttery, crease-free and so easy to blend. The colors are beautiful! If you’re a makeup queen you need this in your life!

Alli says Goodbye Urban Decay Naked and hello Lorac PRO. I’m not a makeup queen, but I do need this in my life. I didn’t know eyeshadow could be buttery. Should I taste it?

Fitnessblender.com

This is a blog, website, and Youtube channel belonging to the cutest husband and wife team who believe fitness should be accessible to everyone. I discovered them while looking for something to shake up my fitness routine.

They have a ridiculous amount of free exercise videos ranging from beginner to advanced, 10 minutes to over an hour,  from Yoga to HIIT (high-intensity interval training) to Kickboxing….you name it! There’s something for everyone.

They also include the details and caloric burn of every workout. Oh, did I mention how cute and sweet they are? I know from stalking their Facebook. Go right now and subscribe to their everything!

Alli says:  Glad you told us what HIIT stands for. I had no clue.

Stir-fry  – Not skincare or music-related, but oh, well

This sounds oh so very mundane and slightly stupid to list as a favorite but stir-fry has been my everything this month –  chicken, shrimp, steak . . . what can I say?

We’re into a stir-fry kick and I’ve been loving it – lots of veggies, a little rice, and lean meat. It’s easy, healthy, and filling. And to think I hated stir-fry as a kid. I’m going to stop saying stir-fry now.

Alli says:  I’m the stir-fry queen. What can I say?

My Nephews’ Basketball Games

Some genius decided to condense the entire season into one month so it’s been games every night! I take them way too seriously but they’re a blast! Who doesn’t love yelling and jumping?

Alli Says:  I repented for yelling at the ref when he made a very, very bad call. I pledge that I will not be one of “those” grandparents.

The Music Part of Skincare and Music Month

Wake Up The Wonder – Elevation Worship

God I look to you – Jenn Johnson

Thinking Out Loud – Ed Sheeran

Riptide – Vance Joy

Phew! That’s a lot of faves. Please let me know if you check out anything I’ve mentioned. What were your January favorites?

Thanks, Caitlin, for taking over my blog today!  You rock . . . just like your mama! 🙂

I am not an expert about skin care, so these tips were great for me. Thanks for sharing!

My daughter knows it all (or think she does – lol). She keeps up with the latest makeup trends, etc. and I just ask her if I want to know anything about a certain product.

I don’t wear foundation very much anymore, but that BeautyBlender looks like something I may have to try.

I didn’t wear foundation until my mid 30’s and can’t stand anything heavy. I love the way the BeautyBlender helps blend my foundation and leaves such a great finish.

I didn’t know what HIIT stood for either…thanks for clearing that up! The BeautyBlender sounds like something I need, but I am going to have to look up how to pounce 🙂

I remember way back when stenciling was all the rage and (don’t laugh) I had a grape vine boarder stenciled along the top of my kitchen wall and I had to pounce that paint on. That’s what I compare the beauty blender to. 🙂

What a great post! Now, I just need y’all to recommend the perfect eye cream! Ready? Set? Go! 🙂

My daughter said to tell you that she is also on the hunt for the perfect eye cream and when she finds it she’ll let us know. Every eye cream she’s tried always burns her eyes.

It is so fun to have grown up daughters, isn’t it! First you get a baby, then a girl and finally a friend. You two make great posts!

I love the beauty blender, too! It took a while for me to get used to it because I’ve always used a foundation brush.

As a 21 year old women I love beauty products, for skin care I usually turn to Bare Minerals, I have very sensitive skin and can trust it wont make my break out even worse.

Alli February 3, 2015 - 9:52 am

I’ve used Bare Minerals in the past and really liked it. I’m always trying new things because my daughter makes me.
