The old saying goes that you can choose your friends, but you can’t choose your family. And while the vast majority of us love our family dearly, it’s true that you can also have a really special bond with friends too. Some friends can be just as precious to us as our family members.

Your BFF's birthday will be here soon! Yikes! Are you always looking for ways to make her feel special? Read more by clicking the pic or save it for later.

So, when your BFF has a birthday coming up, what can you do to make it a really special day for them? Here are just a few ideas.

BFF Birthday Party

Find her the perfect gift

These days it can be hard to think of a gift for people who are close to us. Often we’ve already used our great ideas with gifts in previous years, but there’s also the fact that so many of us already have anything we need. When choosing a birthday gift for a friend, you want to give them something memorable and something that they won’t already have. One neat idea is to buy them a piece of jewelry that features their birthstone. It’s a way of personalizing a gift without necessarily having their name inscribed on it.

There’s a different birthstone for every month and the August birthstone is peridot, which was traditionally known as ‘Olivine’. It’s a beautiful green color and can be bright and lime-like or range to a deeper olive green. Peridot is associated with giving its wearer confidence, patience and assertiveness – great traits to bestow on any friend.

Take her out for the day

If you can both book the day off from work, it’s lovely to spend the whole day together, doing something that you wouldn’t usually do. There are so many different ‘experiences’ that you can book today. It really depends on what your friend is into.

Would your BFF enjoy learning a new skill, such as doing a ceramics workshop where she gets to grips with the potter’s wheel or doing a life drawing class? Perhaps your friend would rather spend the day being pampered in a spa – having a facial or body scrub, or getting a massage and a manicure. What you choose to book isn’t really the important thing – it’s being able to spend some quality time together doing something fun.

Birthday Ideas for your BFF

If you have a wider circle of friends you enjoy hanging out with, you can have the best of both worlds by including them in the celebrations, too. If your friend is married or has a family, then you may have to choose another day apart from her actual birthday – you don’t want to tread on any toes here!

How to Make Birthday Special

Get everyone to meet at your house for mocktails and nibbles. Serve up jugs of Shirley Temples – grenadine, lime juice and chilled ginger ale – or alcohol-free Mojitos – mixing together sugar syrup, fresh mint, lime juice and lime sherbet and club soda. Have a few crisps, nuts and light bites on hand so that you can all enjoy a drink and a chat together before heading out to your favorite restaurant.

Of course, these are just a few ideas and there are so many ways you can make your best friend’s birthday a special one. Marking the day is the most important thing, no matter how you do it. As the novelist, Elie Wiesel once said, “Friendship marks a life even more deeply than love. Love risks degenerating into obsession, friendship is never anything but sharing.”
