Trunk or Treat is one of my favorite fall activities. I love to get all dressed up, DIY my trunk and hand out candy to the kids. I’m always gathering the Best Trunk or Treat Ideas and I love sharing them all with you.
We have some amazingly creative people at our church and we all get together on Halloween night and throw a trunk or treat party. One family always volunteers to grill the hotdogs and hamburgers. We invite the community over for free food and trunk or treating.
I’m thrilled that my trunk or treat posts/photos have been featured on BuzzFeed and in Parents magazine – print and online.
What is trunk or treat? It’s an alternative to trick or treating and is the perfect excuse to throw a huge party for the community. The participants DIY their trunks and the kids go from trunk to trunk to grab some candy or goodies.
The adults like to dress up and get in on the action too. Keep reading to see my trunk and my outfit. Hint: My character doesn’t have superpowers. She does have strength, speed, and flexibility.
Best Trunk or Treat Ideas
Let’s get this party started with some amazing DIY Trunk or Treat Ideas.
Mary Poppins
Just a spoonful of sugar does make the medicine go down. These Mary Poppins peeps (aka my daughter and son-in-law) are the cutest.
All you need are a few props and a faux fireplace and you’re good to go.
Ghostbusters
I have to give a shoutout to my middle daughter and her family (my grandkids) for taking the Ghostbusters theme to the max.
They rock an amazing DIY theme every single year. I ain’t afraid of no ghosts!
Emojis
What would trunk or treat be without an emoji or three? These are adorable and so easy to put together. Check out those socks! Add emoji covered tablecloths and a few emoji pillows and you’re all set.
How About a Nice Hawaiian Punch?
This couple always puts together the most unusual and genius trunk or treat. They went all out this year with a Hawaiian Punch theme. It took me a hot minute to figure this one out. But once I got it, I was super impressed.
Isn’t that adorable?
Gumball Machine
You can tell this lady is a school teacher. Everything is perfect when it comes to her DIY Gumball trunk. It’s so cute!
Even the DIY apron is all about those gumballs.
Mario World
This family always delivers (don’t they all?) and this one is no exception. This Mario World theme is always stylish. Who doesn’t love Mario?
Wash & Dry Laundry Day
This laundry day scene is so creative! It’s a complete DIY that’s over the top amazing. Look at the “suds” spilling out!
The Circus is in Town
Welcome to the big top – complete with a baby lion (aka my youngest grandson). This is adorable, right? Who wants popcorn?
Batgirl and Batman (AKA my husband and me)
Last year, my husband and I were John Smith and Pocahontas. This year we decided to be superheroes. It was so much fun! Check out more costume ideas.
I really got into my Batgirl character.
I ordered my backdrop from Amazon. It was easy peasy. I didn’t like the boots or cape that came with my costume so I ditched them for items that weren’t so flimsy. It works for me. (I’ve had the over-the-knee- boots for several years).
County Jail
The county jail trunk is creative and also featured “most wanted” posters. There’s also jailers with this one too. Click here for costume ideas.
Legos
This DIY Lego Trunk is super creative and cute. I love how they made the legos with paper plates, boxes, glue, and paint.
Hospital
It’s always nice to have a nurse on hand, especially a nurse that has a great big smile. This is also a cute and easy DIY Trunk or Treat idea.
Pregnancy Announcement
A Trunk or Treat party is a great place to announce a new baby is on the way. This sweet lady’s husband was working so her bestie stepped in to help her announce the good news.
This is over-the-top original and a great way to let everyone know you have a blessing on the way. Of course, you do have to be pregnant for this one to work. 🙂
Marvel
Trunk or Treat wouldn’t be complete without a Marvel character or two. Isn’t this a pretty family? Look at those big smiles.
Candy Land
This trunk was full of oversized DIY candy and lollipops! Of course, the real treats are these great big smiles! Giant lollipops are so easy to make. Learn how to easily make them using paper plates.
We always have a fun time when we come together for Trunk or Treat!
It doesn’t matter how simple or extravagant you go, trunk or treat is all about getting together with friends and family and making memories. Plus, it’s so much fun!
