Easy Homemade Hummus is smooth, creamy, and oh, so delicious! This is the easiest recipe and one of my favorite appetizers.
What Is Hummus?
Sometimes we just take for granted that everyone has tasted Hummus and knows exactly what it is. In case you haven’t, Hummus is a delicious dip (or spread) made with chickpeas, tahini, garlic, and citrus.
This middle eastern dish is one of my favorite dips because it’s so creamy and flavorful.
Ingredients For Easy Homemade Hummus
- canned chickpeas
- olive oil
- garlic
- lime juice
- tahini paste
- cumin
What is Tahini Paste?
Tahini is a paste made from ground sesame seeds. And I’ve always loved sesame seeds so there you go.
Tahini Paste was definitely not a staple in my southern kitchen growing up. I really wish it was! These days, I usually have a jar in my refrigerator at all times.
How To Make Easy Homemade Hummus
This is one of the easiest recipes you’ll ever make. I do cheat a little by using canned chickpeas.
I put all the ingredients in the food processor and process for 4-5 minutes or until smooth and creamy. If it’s too thick, you can add a teaspoon of water and pulse until combined.
Trick For Warming Pita Bread To Serve With Homemade Hummus
My favorite way to serve hummus is with warm pita bread. I’m in heaven when I’m dipping the pita bread into the hummus.
Gas Stove Method
If you have a gas stove, this is the best way to warm the bread. You can even use frozen pita bread.
Turn the flame to low and place a pita round right on top of the flame. Using tongs, flip every 6-8 seconds until the pita is warm and pliable.
Oven Method
You can also warm pita rounds in the oven. Wrap the pita rounds in foil and warm at 350ยบ for 8-10 minutes.
I hope you try this homemade hummus recipe soon. It’s a winner.
