I caught up with my daughter, Caitlin, right before she whisked my grandsons (her nephews) off for a visit to Great Wolf Lodge. The trip is a Christmas gift to the nephews from Caitlin and my other daughter, Holly. They’ve just now synced their schedules so that everyone is off work at the same time. Isn’t it nice to get a Christmas gift in March?
If you’re new to the blog (welcome!!) I’d like to introduce you to my youngest daughter, Caitlin. She’s the only offspring who hasn’t flown the nest . . . yet. She’s also a certified makeup artist, who once airbrushed my foundation for a special event. My skin had never looked more lovely . . . and she hasn’t done it since. She’s into all things makeup, skincare and photography. At the beginning of every month we share our favorites from the previous month. Most of her faves are makeup related.
February flew by! Time flies when your car is in the shop for three weeks getting a new motor and you’re stuck with a rental. 😀
I guess that would be my top fave of the month – finally finding and fixing the source of my constant oil leak. Anyway, let’s talk about some FUN faves.
1. Instagram.
I had Insta (as the kids call it) once before and I never really got into it. I just didn’t get it. Well, now I get it and I’m obsessed. If you’re really into pictures, it’s the social networking site for you. I pretty much follow fitness, food, makeup and coffee accounts…because I like looking at those things. 😀
You can follow me @ https://instagram.com/caitiealli
2. Blackberries.
I’m loving blackberries on everything. They’re mixed into my Vanilla Nonfat Greek Yogurt, on my Vans Waffles with cinnamon, in my oatmeal…I love them! Just in case you need more reasons to eat blackberries, here’s a couple health facts:
- 1 cup has 7.6 grams of fiber.
- It’s believed that the polyphenols contained in blackberries improve motor and cognitive skills.
3. MMM Melting Marshmallow Moment & Dreamtime Bath Melts by Lush.
After using a bath melt for the first time, I realized that it relaxes you to almost the point of unconsciousness whilst still lying in your tub. In a good way! I mean, I wouldn’t hold a baby or an electronic when using these. I wish I had one for every night of the year. I also wish I had time to take a bath every night of the year. I’m saving my huge Love Locket Bath Bomb for next month…can’t wait! You can find them here!
One Last thing – I’m really sorry for not delivering on the eye cream review I intended to include this month. The aforementioned motor wrecked my plans. I even had an awesome friend share an article with me listing eye creams the Allure Editors can’t live without. If any of you have suggestions, please let me know in the comments!
The Best Foundation Ever
The tables have turned. Looks like I’m sharing the makeup faves this time.
1. Becca Ultimate Coverage Complexion Creme
I’ve been searching for the perfect foundation for my mature skin and I finally found it. I’m not 25 any more and I can’t get by with a BB cream unless it’s summertime and I have a nice little glow from the sun. Yes, I slather sunscreen constantly. Yes, I still get a little sun. I’m at a point in my life when I need more coverage.
Becca is pricier than drugstore brands, but a little goes a long way. Caitlin gave me Becca as a Christmas gift and I’ve got plenty left. It’s creamy and blends well with a beauty blender or a foundation brush. If you need more coverage, this is the one for you.
2. Lorac Behind the Scenes Eye Primer
My eyelids are not what they used to be. Do you know any good deals on a mini eye lift? It seems that baby crocodiles have taken up residence above my eyes. Not full grown ones, mind you, just tiny ones.
Lorac Behind the Scenes Eye Primer helps smooth out the eyelids so that eye shadow glides on effortlessly.
This product was created by Celebrity Makeup artist Carol Shaw to be used behind the scenes in photo shoots and on the red carpet. It’s gentle, lightweight, oil and paraben free.
3. Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray
I admit that I didn’t use setting spray until a few months ago and now I wonder how I ever lived without it. I don’t ever wear makeup at home, but when I’m going out, this setting spray really does work to keep my makeup looking just-applied for up to 16 hours. I need all the help I can get to stay dewy, fresh and younger looking.
After applying makeup, shake the setting spray and hold the bottle 8″ to 10″ away from your face and mist 3-4 times in a X and T formation. Keep eyes firmly shut during the process (trust me). Caitlin says I look crazy/ funny when I’m doing this. Maybe I should do a youtube video. 🙂
Helpful Hint: A few days ago I accidentally missed my eyelashes and got mascara all over my freshly applied eye shadow. Caitlin taught me to let it dry and then take a clean spooley brush and brush it lightly. It came right off. Yes!
I had no idea what a spooley brush was. It’s an eyebrow shaping tool that looks like a mascara wand (minus the mascara) with a tapered head and soft bristles.
Did you have any February favorites? Do share!

She said, She said is always a fun read. It just so happens my car is currently in the shop for repairs. Unfortunately, we hit a wild hog in the road one dark night coming home. He tore up the front end of the car, little pest!
February is truly the month of love in our family. We had 2 birthdays ( my baby girl and one son-in-law) in February and now with the new baby, we have 3! February is very family oriented so it went by very quickly.
Caitlin’s oil had been leaking a little and the mechanic was watching it, but then it got much worse and he realized there was a crack in her motor. Thankfully, he found a very good, almost new motor to replace it. We have 2 birthdays in Feb. – my son and grandson. Boy, the month flew by!
I’m SO terrible with foundation. I can never figure out how to use it in a way that I don’t look like I have a mask on. I adore ADORE lush – this post has inspired me to trec over to the nearest lush and get some bathmelts!
PLease – you don’t even need foundation! 🙂 Your skin is beautiful!
We are all huge LUSH fans here, even my boys use them! My Feb favourites might be daffodils, snowdrops and big cups of tea I think!
I’m more of a shower person myself, but I keep hearing great things about Lush. I may have to steal, I mean, borrow one of my daughter’s lush bombs!
So many good produts mentioned in this I don’t know where to begin, ha! Becca is such a fantastic brand. Some of their shimmering skin products are some of my favorites! I haven’t tried their foundation, but I’m going to now after reading this!! If you liked the LORAC eye primer, have you tried any of their eyeshadows? Their LORAC Pro Palettes are some of my favorite!
LUSH products are just some of the best things ever made in my opinion. There is nothing better than a good bath with some LUSH goodies!
My favorites for the month were just posted on my blog! I loved the Sara Happ Lip Scrub, a Smashbox Eyeshadow Palette, and two Kiehl’s skincare products!
I do use LORAC pro palette and love it. I have to say that Caitlin loves following you on Instagram. I need to look for that lip scrub.
I loooove Lush! Every time I travel, it takes me forever to pack but with my toiletries, I buy Lush esp. the small sizes. I love Happy Happy Joy Joy! Their shower gels are the best!
My daughter does, too. She uses so many of their products. I really need to try them. 🙂
I had no idea what a spooley brush is either until you mentioned it. Thanks for the great tip on how to remove mascara.
Cool. I hadn’t heard of Becca brand before. Where can you buy it? I totally dig that you are using Lorac products too. I love that beauty brand. Xo
You can buy it at Sephora.
I LOVE bath bombs or bath melts–you will never find me in a position not to be able to use one or the other. It is truly the only way I can fully relax my mind and my body.
Lush bath melts are amazing. Also, thanks for the recommendations for foundations. Good ones are hard to come by!
I love instagram. I have 2 accts. one for blogging one personal. So fun! I’ve been hearing a lot about Lorac lately. My favorite products from February : PB Crave, Tim Tams, Fiber d’Lish bars, Crest 3D White Luxe, dove dry spray
Looks great! Lush is a huge fave. I rarely wear make up but when u do, a good foundation is a must! I love lush bath products, heaven!
I don’t know much about foundations so this was interesting. I usually stick to light BB creams instead!
Oh, to be young and flawless (skin). I remember the day when I wore no foundation at all. Oh, the memories. 🙂
Love the she said she said post! Always fun to see what’s being talked about and all the great products! PS I love blackberries too!
I always look forward to blackberry season. I especially love blackberry jam and cobbler.
When I went to beauty school we use to do each others make-up, but I’ll tell ya I should’ve paid more attention. I can do my eyes, but the rest of me is a joke. 🙁 A very informative Post. Thanks so much for sharing.
This was fun to read! Thank you for introducing me to some new brands that I hadn’t heard of!
Omg when you said blackberries, I thought you were talking about the phone at first and was like HOORAY another blackberry user. But… you weren’t 🙁 LOL
I was the blackberry (phone) queen back in the day. I went through 3-4 but then that crazy hourglass thought it should show itself 24/7 and I finally filed for divorce and have been happily married to my iPhone ever since. My husband loves his Droid. Yuck.
I may need to check out the foundation sounds amazing!! Great Wolf lodge is a great Christmas present!
They had the best time at Great Wolf and have decided to make it an annual trip. Definitely check out the foundation. I think I included the link to Sephora (that’s where I get mine).
I love the spooley brush though did not know the name but thanks for that tip, I so need to try out that Urban Decay setting spray.
Glad I’m not the only one who didn’t know the name of that brush that looks like a souped up mascara wand to me.
I didn’t really understand the desire for Instagram when I first signed up but I love it now. I follow a bunch of food and fitness accounts but I can’t get enough baby and pet photos 🙂
I love baby and pet photos, too. I always add a like to every one of them, too.
Love the mother-daughter team here on this post. Your daughter seems to have so much info. I need that spooley brush – have never heard of it. Thanks for all the make-up tips!!
She knows way more than I do about makeup, brushes, etc. 🙂
I aboslutely LOVE Lush! We have been using them for probably 10 years now, since they opened their store in Orlando. The dreamtime bath bombs are my go-to when my daughter is having trouble sleeping, and I can definitely say I’ve indulged in them a time or two myself… They opened a store near us (we now live in NY) and it is a serious struggle not to go there all the time lol!
My daughter loves them, too and I’m guessing the one she wrote about is one she had never tried. I’m such a shower person so I’ve never used the bombs or melts or any of them. I have used a bar thingy that you rub on your skin at the end of the shower and I like it. I have no idea what it’s called.
Blackberries are so yummy I love them in my oatmeal and salads and the urban decay all nighter setting spray is heaven sent. Thanks for sharing ♥
Good to see you say that about the all night makeup setting spray. I’ve been wanting to get some and just haven’t pulled the plug yet.
The lush bath melts sound amazing. I really want to try that specially now that I badly badly need some me-time! 🙂
