Ingredients At A Glance (Full printable recipe card down below)

  • Salted Cocktail Peanuts – Like Planter’s cocktail peanuts
  • Vegetable Oil – Vegetable oil is mild, and almost non-existent when used in a recipe.
  • Chili Powder – Chili powder is mild to moderate spicy. The savory and aromatic spices create a flavorful profile.
  • Garlic Powder – The taste of garlic powder is similar to fresh garlic but is milder.
  • Cayenne Pepper –  This spice has a pungent aroma, slightly sweet and smoky. It brings the perfect amount of heat to the spiced peanuts.

What are Cocktail Peanuts?

You can find shelled, roasted cocktail peanuts at your local grocery store. For this recipe, you need to purchase the salted or lightly salted. I use the Planters brand.

Virginia Peanuts are often called cocktail peanuts. These peanuts are considered large-kernelled and are the perfect size for processing. Virginia Peanuts are primarily grown in North Carolina, Texas, and Virginia.

Easy Preparation Steps

Preheat the oven. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Mix the chili powder, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper in a small bowl.

You can eat them right away or leave them in an airtight container overnight for the best flavor results.

Helpful Tips:

  • These peanuts have the perfect amount of heat. However, if you like a bit of sweetness, add a teaspoon of sugar (or more!) to the spice mix.
  • If you like more of one spice flavor than the other, simply adjust accordingly to meet your taste preferences.
  • I encourage you to allow these to sit overnight as the flavor only gets better.
  • You can use other oils. However, it’s important to note that changing oils can change the flavor outcome.

Storage

Store the spicy nuts in an airtight container in a cool, dry spot for up to 2 months. Do not freeze.
