So, whether you’re looking to avoid store-bought cartons of eggnog or simply prefer a non-alcoholic version of your favorite holiday drink, mock eggnog is a great choice.

With just a few simple ingredients and five minutes of your time, you can create a delicious and festive drink that’s sure to become your new drink of choice during the holiday season.

What Is Eggnog?

If you’re a fan of eggnog, you might be curious about the history and variations of this classic holiday drink.

Eggnog is a sweet, creamy beverage that is traditionally served during the Christmas season in the United States. It’s made with milk, sugar, eggs, and spices, and often includes alcohol which makes it a boozy eggnog.

My homemade eggnog recipe is one that the whole family can enjoy. Some people may even call it milk punch.

How Traditional Eggnog Is Made

The traditional eggnog recipe calls for raw eggs, which can be a concern due to the risk of salmonella. I don’t do raw eggs so that’s a big no for me.

To make the classic eggnog recipe safe to consume, it’s recommended to use a cooked version. This involves heating the egg mixture to a temperature of at least 160°F (71°C) to kill any potential bacteria.

This delicious mock eggnog recipe doesn’t call for raw eggs nor does it feature boozy alcohol. It’s also very easy to make and that’s a plus during the busy holiday season.

Comparison with Store-Bought Eggnog

If you’re a fan of eggnog, you’ve probably tried store-bought eggnog at some point. While it’s convenient to buy it at the grocery store, there’s nothing quite like making your own mock homemade eggnog. Here’s how it compares to store-bought eggnog:

Taste

Store-bought eggnog often has a strong artificial flavor and can be overly sweet. On the other hand, mock homemade eggnog has a much more natural taste and can be customized to your liking. You can adjust the sweetness, spices, and creaminess to create the perfect holiday drink.

Ingredients

Store-bought eggnog typically contains a long list of ingredients, including preservatives and artificial flavors. Mock homemade eggnog, on the other hand, only requires a few simple ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry. Plus, it’s non-alcoholic and has no eggs, making it a great option for those with dietary restrictions.

Seasonal Beverages

One of the only things better than a warm, creamy drink on a cold winter day is a warm, creamy drink that’s delicious and easy to make.

Mock homemade eggnog is a great way to indulge in seasonal beverages without all the added sugar and calories that come with store-bought eggnog.

Tips:

  • Store in a pitcher or jar, with a lid, for up to a week. Do not freeze or store outside of the refrigerator.
  • If your eggnog is too thick for your liking, simply add more milk until it reaches the consistency you prefer. The more milk you add, the more it will dilute the flavor, so be aware of this and adjust accordingly, if need be. When adding extra milk, do not use the blender, stir it in with a spoon or it will simply help it get thicker otherwise.
  • If you would like to add alcohol, simply replace a cup of milk with spiced rum.
  • You can use French Vanilla instant pudding instead of vanilla if preferred.
  • You are not preparing the pudding so disregard the instructions on the pudding box. You’re only using the powder.
  • If you pour it through a strainer, like the one on a cocktail shaker, it will remove any bubbles you might not want left in the eggnog.

Serving Suggestions

Now that you have made your delicious mock homemade eggnog, it’s time to serve it up! Here are a few serving suggestions to make your eggnog even more enjoyable.

Add Nutmeg

For those who love the taste of nutmeg, adding a sprinkle on top of your eggnog can give it an extra kick of flavor. Be careful not to add too much, as nutmeg can be overpowering.

Whipped Cream

Adding a dollop of whipped cream to your eggnog can make it even creamier and more indulgent. You can even sprinkle a hint of nutmeg on top of the whipped cream for an extra festive touch.
