Salted Caramel Rice Krispie Bars are the perfect combination of sweet and salty. The salted caramel takes Rice Krispie Treats to a whole new level.
I recently tried Salted Caramel Rice Krispie Bars for the first time at our annual fall family reunion. As soon as I took a bite, I knew I had to get the recipe.
We had to cancel the last two reunions so we were thrilled when the family got together.
If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you’ll know that the first time I tasted Dixie’s Pecan Pie Cobbler was at our annual family reunion. We’ve got some really good cooks in the family!
And I’m so glad Andrea shared the recipe with me!
Helpful Hint: Andrea doubled the caramel topping (photo below that I took with my phone at the reunion!). When I made them (photo above!), I did not double the caramel topping.
I also cut down on the coarse salt. A half teaspoon is plenty in my opinion.

How To Store Salted Caramel Rice Krispie Treats
These bars are best eaten within two days of making them. However, you can store them at room temperature in an airtight container for up to three days.
Steps For Making Salted Caramel Rice Krispies
Spray a 9×13 pan with cooking spray. Set aside.
Melt butter in a large saucepan over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir constantly until completely melted.
Remove from heat and add Rice Krispies. Stir until well combined.
Using wax paper or buttered fingers, press the Rice Krispie mixture into the prepared 9×13 pan.
While the Rice Krispie mixture is cooling, make the caramel topping. You can melt the caramel bits in the microwave or on the stovetop.
Melt the caramel bits and heavy cream in a small bowl in the microwave for 1-1/2 minutes. Give the bits a quick stir. If not fully melted, microwave for 10 additional seconds, repeating until melted and smooth.
NOTE: If you can’t find Kraft Caramel Bits, you can use a 14 oz. package of Kraft Caramels.
- To melt, unwrap the caramels and place them in a medium-sized saucepan. Add the heavy cream. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring constantly, until melted and smooth. The melting process takes about 10 minutes.
- Spread the caramel mixture over the Rice Krispie mixture and smooth it with a rubber spatula.
Sprinkle with kosher salt and let cool completely.
Cut into small bars before serving.
Serving Size: You can cut the Salted Caramel Rice Krispie Bars into large or small bars. Of course, the smaller you cut them, the more you will have.
