Grape Salad is the perfect Side Dish For A Garden Party

Table Set For A Garden Party - Black Table With Flowers For A Centerpiece

My grandma Elrod was an avid gardener. I believe she knew the common name of every flower on the planet. And she could grow anything. Ditto for my mom and her sisters, as well.

Me, not so much. In my case, I thought the apple had fallen far from the tree when it came to the love of gardening.

Until I turned 40. In my 20s, I thought lawns and gardens were best left in the hands of the lawn maintenance company that magically showed up at my house once a week. I had enough on my plate without added work.

In my late 30’s I began to hear and largely ignore the call of the soil, “Come play with me!” I piddled a little bit with flowers but by the time 40 rolled around, I had answered that call in my amateurish sort of way.

Along the way, I’ve learned that gardening is always a work in progress, at least for me. And just puttering around outside is a distant cousin of gardening.

These days, I love planning garden parties. Grape salad is a perfect party dish for a spring or summer garden party. It’s so easy to make and everyone seems to love this side dish.

How To Toast Pecans For Grape Salad

I like to toast the pecans before sprinkling them on top. In a medium skillet on medium heat, heat pecans for 3-5 minutes until fragrant and browned, stirring frequently.

You can also toast pecans in the oven. Preheat the oven to 350ºF. Spread pecans in a single layer onto a parchment paper-lined baking pan. Toast for 7-10 minutes, until brown and fragrant, shaking the pan occasionally.

You can make grape salad the night before you’re serving it and refrigerate overnight. Or make it the same day, just make sure the salad is chilled before serving.

How To Store Grape Salad

Refrigerate leftover grape salad in an air-tight container for up to three days. Stir before serving.
